THE BEST WAY (circa 1890) PART 2

More from "The Best Way".

So many of these tips are actually still useful today!

Shabby skirts, bloodstains, removing grease, restoring black chiffon & steaming velvet

Again, totally unretouched large scans, so you have plenty of room to cut, crop and manipulate.

Drying boots, button boots, kid gloves & jewellery cleaning

This charming book is definitely one of a kind, and it's heartbreaking how the paper is deteriorating day by day: yellowed, brittle, crumbling to the touch. It was produced on the cheapest possible paper in its day, as a household tips& tricks reference book for the lower middle and working classes, most of whom were probably In Service to the great households at the time. There's an awful lot on the subject of laundry and housework!

Washing lace, cleaning cushion covers, washing an eiderdown

I feel this is a real piece of social history, and hope you are enjoying it as much as I am.
